Prop UJs or something else?

Driving home tonight I noticed what sounded like a clicking noise from the o/s front wheel so did a search on here and convinced myself it was the cv joint or wheel bearing.

Jacked up the wheel and there is no play or noise but the clicking seems to be coming from the prop itself

could this be the ujs or is there something else I should be looking at?

97 300tdi auto import

been a few months since they were greased, goin to grease them tomorrow and if they are a bit quieter will look to replace them asap. The noise sounds like its coming from the shaft itself which is what has me stumped

i would check the movement on them first before greasing, as they may be fooked

tried to check movement earlier. didnt feel excessive play on shaft, no real movement on ujs that i could see just a sort of pop/click noise when doing full rotations but they can only be heard and not felt.

whip the front prop off then then your know for sure !!

Had to work his morning so took the car to a mates garage and put it on the ramp, couldn't find any play in either prop (noticed rear donut is on it's way out tho) filled with grease and all smooth and quiet for now.

Going to order some hc ujs from paddocks just to be safe
