Prop shafts

Minor question...why does only the front prop shaft have a gaiter (276484)?

I bought two replacements as I was going to fit one to the rear, too, (thinking a PO had just neglected to replace one) but I'm now wondering why the books seem to be referencing one only on the front. Surely there's a good argument for keeping cr@p out of the sliding members (fnar, fnar) at both ends...

I'm also contemplating using cable ties to fix them in place rather than jubilee clips, to minimise any balance issues (although I know fitting them 180 degrees apart would help reduce that effect). Good or bad idea?

The front prop is more vunerable to crud where as the rear joint has some protection from the gearbox/handbrake drum.
90'/110 have never had a gaiter but I recon they could have done with one, more so as the joint cap is just a push on plastic thing.
No reason not to use plastic ties they are common on replacement CV bellows. When series first came out there were no plastic ties.

OK, so it's purely down to the fact that it's not considered as useful on the back? For the weight and cost of a bit of rubber, I think I'll just fit one to both ends. And yeah, I know cable ties weren't 'a thing' back then, but I suppose I'm surprised the new kits don't come with them. I guess authenticity is important in some areas, but like nyloc nuts, I think I'll make use of modern developments for a better solution when it doesn't notice.
