Hi all - had a prob with a clicky front prop - have just replaced both ujs - clicky now gone but now have horrendous vib at 40 - 50 mph! - what have i done wrong?
steve

did you slide the prop apart and assemble it out of phase ?

did you knock any of the balance weights off ?

def didnt knock any weights off - should the yokes on the main shaft be in line or at 90 deg?

steve

i did do a search but the results are a bit misleading - one says inline, another says there should be marks under the gaiter. im pretty sure i re aligned as it came apart - thought i might get some useful help from landy drivers

thanks thainy - ill pull gaiter back in the morn and check - just so dissapointing that ive replaced the joints and made things worse!

steve

Latest Update - marked existing orientation and took shaft off, dismantled and spline marks were in alignment (yokes in line) so why do i have severe vib above 40? In desperation ive even tried turning the splines 180 deg - no difference. The uj cups all appear symetrical in the yokes and circlips all snugly in place.
Any ideas please?Thanks, steve

Do the UJ's move nice and smoothly when you move the yolks? Is there a lot of lift in the splined joint? Try running with the prop off altogether-just in case there's something else going on! Try a different prop if you can borrow one? New props are very cheap-barely worth fixing an old one TBH.
Rob.

Hi Treworgy - I always value your opinions! vehicle is not lifted - bog standard, ujs free to move and splined joint well greased with no excessive play. My understanding is that ujs in pairs should be in phase - I googled the subject last night and there are certain threads that say the rear prop should be in phase as the drive flanges are parallel, but the front prop should be about 30 deg out of phase as the drive flanges are not parallel - raising the susp would presumably make this worse. The vibration I have at 40 plus is phemonenal and I cant beleive its just out of balance from replacing the uj - easing off on the power has a big effect too so im starting to beleive the 30deg theory1 Can you help?

thanks
steve

Is there ANY play at all between the splines of each half of the prop? Even if there is the tiniest bit of slight movement, this will rattle at speed.

Did the prop shafts definitely go back on the right way round?
