Hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong place still finding my way around. My wife was driving the D2 today and a a whining noise occured followed by a bang then she pulled over. So on inspection the prop has come off the splines in the diff. Bolt worked it's way loose. So questions I have is. How much play does the splined part in the diff have as I can move it in and out?

Yer wrong section pal, should post in the discovery section. No play in the diff side is it the flange
that you can pull in/out or the pinion shaft that the flange bolts onto with a big nut in the centre.
Is the rubber dounut still attached to the diff. (sorry im assuming its the rear) ??

Ok mate thanks. No it's the front diff. It's the pinion where you bolt the flange too. It's got loads of play. Side to side and in and out

Ah ok sounds like the pinion shaft bearing has gone you need a new diff or that one reconditioned.
I have a spare 24 spline one here but im in Scotland.
The pinion is shimmed & pressed into place.
