Hi guys, well progress has possibly been made as i have gotten at the bargain basement price £175 from a wrecked 2 door discovery a 200tdi and s suffix lt77 gear box, but no transfer box. Got it back and stripped all the ancillaries off the exhaust sides of the engine so it looks a bit bare now the problem is what to do next, the box and the engine are going to be stripped and rebuilt. Still got to decide what they are going to go in.

whoa 175 pounds, thats pretty good for all of what you have there.
people over here in australia would try to sell that for around 500 pounds or more as they think landrovers demand the highest price possible.

£175 seems a very good deal ,disco box will be very hard to fit in a swb even if you move the engine mounts forward it will be tight

I have a defender lt77 (shorter bell housing) in my swb and the rear prop is pretty short but you could get atleast £100 for that box and use the money you saved on the engine to get a defender box or stick with the series box

Yeah I was thinking I could get a short r380 bell housing from ashcroft and stick that on as if I remember correctly is even shorter than the lt77 defender bell housing. Though £165 for a housing is pretty steep so might have to go rummaging some where to find one. Dose any one know if the series transfer box will bolt to a lt77 or am I going to have to get a lt230? Though this may go in a 109 that's sat round at a local garage so I think that would negatiate the bell housing length issue.

it is shorter so that overall gear box length is the same as the def lt77

Wouldnt you need a shorter input shaft too ?

Series transfer box can be made to fit with an ashcroft kit (not cheap even if they have them) but that would save any problems with the props
