Ok, so in my quest to fit a straight through exhaust on my 200, I started taking things apart..

first of all.... how the fok are you supposed to take the rubber mounts off the mid silencer???
I had to unbolt the bracket and take it all together..

now the important bit...
I bought a straight through pipe to replace the mid silencer, but it doesnt match the type of lip on the exhaust rear section?

the mid silencer pipe ends as a "closed" lip.. (not sure if there's a technical term for this?
and the exhaust rear section pipe starts as a "open" lip..

meaning both join together perfectly..

now, the straight throuh pipe I've bought is "open lip" on both sides...
this is not right is it??

here's a pic..
the left is the mid silencer, in the middle is the new straight through pipe, left is the ehxaust rear section..

I did think about it bus, and my prefered tool, the big fok off hammer, was about to come out....
I know how i'm going to play it then to take the rubbers off....

any views on the straight through pipe? that thing doesnt look right does it? unless im supposed to grind the lip to make it fit the rest of my exhaust?

I had a similar problem fitting my exhaust, so i asked my friendly mechanic and he gave me 2 large olive type rings that went between the 2 sections and it fitted perfectly. Sorry I can't remember what he called them.

ive only ever seen fem2fem exhaust sections clamped together once, and it used a large bevelled hose clip to do it. i was never happy with the joint tho so the exhaust was changed about 4 days after i spotted it. i dont think its supposed to be like that, so i would be speaking to the people you got the pipe from and making sure its the right 1

ye'd probably get away with usin' mole grips instead mate;)

Ah can't realy comment on that one as ah've never seen or done owt like that. It would probably be a shame tae ruin a perfectly guid pipe... maybe somebody else is in the same boat and got a wrong pipe that ye could swap with;)

Fitted a straight through pipe on mine a few weeks ago. Same problem with rubber mountings and "lips".
Bent the tabs back on the mountings and they came off relatively easily. It was a bugger fitting the new pipe in though untill I lubricated the mountings with fairy liquid they just slid in.
About the "lips". Went to local motor factors and bought an exhaust olive gasket for a 200Tdi... fits perfectly with no leaks.

found it in famous4 website at 2.50 each..
is this alright?

is it just a case of puting some exhaust paste to seal and use the clamps to keep the 2 pipes against eachother?

That's them! I was gonna use some paste aswell and was told not to bother it doesn't need it. Mine sealed perfectly no leaks and still all good 12 months on.

Stick a screwdriver under it and squirt a bit of WD40 in with the straw, then twist the silencer away from the rubber. Don't try to just push the silencer sideways, it won't work - imagine the hanger is an 'S' hook and it'll slide straight out.

Don't know if you'll get the rubber off without the bracket being mounted to the car though!

fok it!
went to kwik fit this morning and they had those olive gasket but not for the size I need...
and the place that sells it is closed today.. :(

such a lovely day with so much rain...was looking forward for a drive down the plains :(

where's that? and are they open today?
I can get the bits tomorrow here in Newbury..but if I can get them today I would, so I could go out and play on the plains
