problem with stereo

Have got a td5 2001 and the problem is that if you turn the stereo off whilst the ignition is on (or car running) then try to turn it back on nothing happens??????

the only way to turn it back on is to turn the ignition off and then the stereo back on and then start the car again which is a pain in the ass!!

if the stereo is on and you turn the ignition off then the stereo turns off too and will come back on when the ignition is turned on next which i would say is normal its just if you are driving and the kids turn the stereo off you have to stop and restart the car????

any ideas
