Dear All,

I am having an issue with my brakes. About 2 weeks ago brake fluid was leaking badly from the rear RHS piston and my mechanic diagnosed the problem as the piston having rusted out completely and replaced the entire caliper. The LHS piston is also rusted out but I am not able to find the LHS caliper. Now when I brake I have to press the pedal fully and even then it does not brake well. If I pump the brakes then the car stops without a problem. My mechanic diagnosed the problem as the brake master cylinder. Could this be the problem?

Your help would be highly appreciated.

Sanjay

It could be the master cylinder but untill you have replaced the other rear caliper and thoroughly bled the brakes you won't be sure,if the caliper is letting fluid out it can also draw air in.

Air in system, leaking caliper, badly fitted caliper, badly fitted pads, master cylinder, brake hose bulging, wheel bearing! To name a few. Some not so likely. If it didn't pump up before the caliper was replaced I'd be looking there first, it is possible to damage a master cylinder when bleeding, but not overly common, that's why I'd start with the work that's been done first!
