I broke down last week at a major junction in my series 3 2.25 petrol , it would occasionally start but struggled, missed a few beats and then stopped.
I got a tow home and mechanic (who I trust and know) diagnosed the points as not sparking and changed them , now when it runs its fine , however it does splutter from exhaust slightly but doesnt cut out , I have solved this in past by slowly adjusting the idle screw , I now have a new problem , when it starts it turns over really slowly as if it has a dead battery until I put my foot on accelerator and it finally kicks in, could I have killed battery by trying to start it so many times when it stalled? , also when I broke down last week I noticed coil was very hot , could this be related?
