I have replaced the injectors on my TD5 engine after changing the seals and washers. I now need to replace my rocker shaft. When I removed it I turned the crankshaft to get the painted mark on the pulley to the top and checked that the timing pin fitted into its hole. When I went to refit it in this position it won't seat properly. If I turn the crankshaft till the two different coloured links are at the top then it seems to sit ok but the timing pin has no hole to sit in.

Should I refit it in this position and just adjust the rockers or might this cause engine destroying event?

I have turned the engine till I could get the rocker shaft to fit properly and carefully tightened the bolts I haven't adjust the rockers yet - my next job. What is the worst case scenario?

Worst case is new engine lol but you should be safe at the moment. Have you checked RAVE for timing procedure? I would have thought the cam/rocker would be locked before dismantling timing, and the new one would fit in it's place?

I haven't touched the camshaft or the timing chain - just removed the rocker shaft. I have now refitted the rocker shaft and adjusted the rockers and have turned the engine by hand. I couldn't feel anything fouling.

Engine timings got no bearing on the rocker shaft. You would have had to turn engine past tdc anyway to get injectors clear of the cam lobes on removal and when setting injector clearances with cam lobes at full lift anyway. Torque her down and set the clearances away you go :)

I think
