Hi I bought a P38 off eBay with limited service history and surprise, surprise its sh*te!

It kept overheating which I seem to have sorted, but the rad hoses seem to be highly pressurised, any ideas?

To fix overheating I.....

Had expansion tank tested for exhaust gases to rule out head gasket.
Replaced perishing rad hose
Had radiator flow tested and flush (gets evenly hot now)
Checked water pump
Replaced thermostat
Replaced expansion tank cap

I want to move the car on so need it to be as fault free as possible before I do so.

Cheers

Alistair

If you've fixed the overheating then there isn't really a problem?

It drips a bit of oil, half the electric inc air con are screwed, the gearbox makes a rattling sound when idling need I go on....

I can't afford to write it off and not sell on, but I want it to be in the best possible shape

Well if the overheating is cured thats one off the list. Presuming you've checked gearbox fluids etc. Air con could just need re-gassing (pretty cheap).

Checked transmission fluids and added a gearbox conditioner which to be honest made the gear change a little smoother. Air con is blend motors and more as only blows air to screen and temp controls don't seem to affect actually temp much. I'll have to sell with faulty air con and disclose it.

To be honest it hacks me off that a lot of P38's are sold as needing air con re-gassing when in fact they are clearly faulty.

I've had loads of cars over the years and the old 'air con needs a regass' quote in adverts pretty much always means it's knackered in some way.
