My 2001 Freelander, which is in Portugal, runs well on the level but on slight inclines and on hills there is a definite lack of acceleration resulting in a gradual slowing down. Additionally, when the slowing down occurs the car occasionally picks up speed and shoots forward even though pressure on the accelerator has remained constant.
A diagnostic check found no faults. However, after the check had taken place, the vehicle refused to start and our mechanic said and I quote "I tapped the pressure pump and the vehicle started right away". He added that replacing the "pressure pump" might solve the problem.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on the above.
