Power steering leak ....

Hi guys, 3 days after buying my 110 i have just gone out to discover my powersteering fluid all over te floor

I refilled the resivoir, and bled all the air out through the steering box as normal, only to discover that in the resivoir the new fluid is full if tiny bubbles, like a froth. Any ideas why it leaked in the first place? is it a tiny air leak somewhere and the bubbles are being drawn in? or symptomatic of something worse?

cant narrow down with the description but chuck half a cup of brake fluid in the reservoir , will swell the seals and stop leak if that is the problem

i would check where leal is ,if front seal on pump may be sucking air in

Hi

Had the same problem a year ago - changed the reservoir as it had a broken seal - pretty cheap replacement.

Watch the oil level as you turn it lock to lock if it drops significantly one way or the other you have air in the system, with engine ticking over just loosen the little screw on top of the pas box
If the engine is a retrofit check the large suction pipe to the pas pump isnt kinked

right a quick up date, just got back from work and shoved my head under the car and i have just noticed the leak appears to be coming from the top of the pump, im assuming its leaking where the long pipe enters the pump I can also hear it drawing in air.

Any one have an exploded view of the pump? or somewhere where i can download the service manual.

do you have to remove the altanator to remove the pump or can you just remove the pump from underneath?

Any tips or help would be greatly appricated! Thanks guys!

Not sure on disco engine but defender engine piece of **** to remove, just the 4x10mm headed bolts and the whole thing, adjuster bracket pipes etc just hangs down.

awsome thanks guys, its a defender engine so to re cap its just undo 4x10mm bolts and the whole lot just drops down? can it be driven without fluid in it if i take the belt off or will it kill the pump?

No wont kill pump if the belt is off wont be much fun to drive though!

Ha ha, found the problem air getting in through a tiny crack in the housing, i touched it with my nail to check if it was surface rust and this happened!

Could it be welded to seal the air ingress? im not a welder and have very little knowledge of the pumps so any help would be great as its a recon pump with not many miles since it was fitted ( its been standing since 2007 hence the rust)
