power problem

Hi all, I'm new here and just wondered if someone might be able to help me. I have a 1989 110 county which the previous owner spent a good bit of money. He put a 200tdi in from a 93 defender, 2" lift, changed the rear axle to a one with disc brakes, kenlowe and lots of other stuff. This is my problem, it seems to lack power. When I'm exelerating through the gears, if I go into 4th at 30mph it will not speed up it just sits their for ages untill the revs slowly build up and then it will shift. It feels even worse if there is a slight incline, then it feels flat as a fart and I have to drop to third to get anywhere. If I flog it a bit in third it will be ok when I change up. I have had the landy for about 18 months and it seems to be getting worse. I am well accustomed to landys because thats all I've driven for the last 18 years. I dont know if its an injector problem or turbo or maybe even a gear ratio issue. Any thoughts would be great thanks

i would fit clear plastic pipe between inection front banjo bolt and filter to check for air while running

Check turbo boost . Check revs when waste gate opens.

hold top flexi pipe going into maniold it will baloon as pressure increases

I have only a fraction of James' knowledge, but from reading your describition turbo (either the unit or a collapsed hose) was my first thought

Hoses can look OK from the outside, but collapse when under pressure

I changed the diesel filter today just incase it was that. I also took the pipe that comes from the top of the pump upto the turbo and blew them out with an airline. Should the linkage that comes out of the actuator move by hand or should it not move at all? All the other hoses from the intercooler are pretty new silicone ones, so I think are fine. I tried nipping the hose to test the boost but notheing happened. Dont know if I did it right. I did notice that there was a build up of soot on the back of the turbo, I have cleaned it off to see if it reaccurs, could the turbo leak from there.

Similar issue last year; turned out to be a small split in one of the hoses. Once replaced it was back to normal.

How did you find it and which hose was it in, all water and intercooler hoses are new silicone

Took them all off to give them a clean and then found a split in the right angled pipe that connects the turbo with the lower intercooler connector pipe.
