hi all, help badly needed as at a loss with freebie problem.at any speed when kick down to the floor engine drops 1 or two gears and then revs to the max without any power and slows. When doing about 50-60 mph and try to overtake acceleration very very slow until you hit 4400 revs then a suden surge of power, like a diffrent car( no matter what gear always a surge of power at 4400 rpm).what ive done so far.first off top auto garage( Harlow), two diffrent bods both said fueling problem. so 1.full service, with new fule filter. 2. 2 four liter auto oil changes. 3. new MAF.3.new inlet and and all bits.4.new throtle sensor.5 fuel pressure check 50-55 psi.6. pulled the CAT down , no melting or other damage seen.7. no MIL lights and no codes.Any help on this prob as im . many thanks

jamesmartin, hi. if you mean auto oil, 2 4lt changes and sweet red . not an oil problem. cheers for the quick note.

........ I have the V6 petrol too.

Went for a bit of a drive the other day (200 km round trip, just for something to do), drove up a rather steep Bulli Pass, (1hr Sth of Syd) and bugga me the damn thing just felt like it didnt have any power at all!

Auto kept stepping down and revving like *&%$! then back to 'normal' then searched for lower gear again etc etc

I could normally go up this Pass @ 80+ kph in 3rd gear with a sedan!! Rover wouldnt do over 60kph getting up!!! I had Hyundai Excel's passing me!!

Thought I mighta broke something but after reaching the top, and getting on the freeway, Rover was back to 'normal', stunned me a bit that it was that gutless getting up a gradient like that, anyways, prolly not the same problem you have, as I gather you were on reasonably flat terrain.

Im thinking that I should send it in for a service too as a precaution.

little update, jamesmarin et all.gave it another oil change(the third), following the set LR method again. now kicks down beter and more power. but it holds the revs at the top end and wont change down until u let off the gas a little.cannot find any way to adjust the kick down, nothing on the throtle body or the pedel to adjust. any othere place I should be looking.nearly sorted so give me a clue fellas.
