Anyone able to offer some wisdom to my power loss problem?
m/y 2000 2.5 DHSE (approx 80,000) with superchip installed - (before purchase)
Felt seriously underpowered compared to my previously owned 2.5dse a year older similar milage.
Taken to local specialist tune-up centre (happens to be the local superchip agent), all systems checked and no faults shown but tests showing a large loss of power compared to what should be the case. Superchip is confirmed to be set up correctly.
New air mass/flow sensor tried - no difference.

Any help appreciated!

No reports of any problem with the turbo - still in the garage - went to pick it up turned the key to drive off (outside the place) and it began to idle very erratic. Shop kept it overnight to investigate further and install newer chip software (to be sure), went in today to check progress only to hear that it has now developed a gearbox fault with bad noises coming from the transmission, they are going to check fluid levels in this next....... could this be linked to my earlier posts of leaking red fluid - I suspect so.

Hope for no bad news...will keep you all posted

p.s anyone know if the transmission ECU is a common fault in these motors?

Hello,

I am professionally involved with Range Rover. With the P38a it is extremely rare that the transmission ECU fails. What happens is that the seal on one of the shafts in the transfer case starts leaking. The seal itself is a simple O ring but the transfer case has to come out for that. It happens more in the Disco 2 than in the P38a but it does.

Good luck

Andre

Hi this is njh , who drove your car last because it sounds like someone's being trying out the kickdown !!
Also , when i owned a 300tdi the air intake pipe delaminated and split causing power to drop dramaticaly. Changed all hoses, ran much bettter :)

Collected car from garage yesterday, the gearbox rattle died when the transmission fluid was topped up - it had lost 2 litres over time with the leaking pipes. The superchip has been taken out completely to be changed in a few days with the latest version so the vehicle is bog standard now. I have to say I have never driven a slower motor! It revs loads and goes no where, I'm not expecting super car performance but even the mechanics who worked on it say it is super slow. (I have to drive with foot through the floor to get anywhere.) Their diagnostics show absolutely no faults with the main components at all and all are baffled. Next step is main dealer I think! A sorry result from an otherwise immaculate example of a Rangie.:(

Ello njh here.

If it revs loads :
Is the engine responding to the throttle quickly when in neutral/park?
If so is the power getting to the gearbox corectly? .(manual or auto, torque converter or clutch problems.)
Just trying to help :)
