Am thinking about getting a few bits off my landy powder coated but first of all i had a few questions and need of opinions:

Chequerplate: Paint it black or get it 'coated black when the other bits go in?

Spot light bar: My current spotlight bar is chrome...will i be able to get this powdercoated ok? (theres only a few bits of rust on it if that matters)

Alloys: First of all...do you think they would suit going black (bearing in mind that the chequer and spotlight bar are going black)

Lastly...have any of you guys had your alloys powdercoated? If so how did they come out and have you got any pics please?

Cheers

I sprayed my wing and bonnet chequerplate black about 20 months ago. It's been stood on, pressure washed and put through some pretty scratchy lanes but it's not doing too bad considering. It has a few chips in it but thats it.

Cool, i was worried it wouldnt last that well, what paint did you use? I know you need self etching primer to start

Cool, looks like a cheap and easy job then! Have you any idea how well the alloys would come up 'coated? Reading through past posts all i can find out is that i am looking at anywhere between 20 and 50 pound per wheel

where are you from i can do powdercoating,as long as its all cleaned off etc ;)

Cheshire mate...do you mean sand blasted and primed? How much you charging per wheel out of interest and have u got any pics of wheels done? Thanks

I used etch primer first. I was originally going to do it in matt but after testing on the smaller bonnet panels I changed my mind. I thought the matt would chip to esay and be a bugger to clean. I used satin instead. The bits that were done in matt first are not such a smooth finish as those done purely in satin. I gave it all 2 coats of primer and 3 of black.

I think it was halfords paint I used. I can't remember for sure.

Ok thanks...will build up a decent base with the etc primer then spray a few coats of satin on top...think i have a few cans of halfords satin in garage anyway. Would i be best painting or powdercoating the winch hook and rear corners which are chequer? Just thinking both are likely to get a bit more abuse

I wouldn't bother powder coating the winch hook to be honest. If yer that bothered about it getting chipped, hamerite it and just touch it up as and when it chips. The rear corners are up to you. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the tread on powder coated chequerplate is different to that of normal cp as powdercoated cp would reduce the ridges on normal cp. See how you get on with the rest of the cp and then base your decision on that. I'd expect the bonnet and wing cp to get a bigger hammering than the rear quarters though.

There's a place in Newton le Willows that did my chassis, well he only shotblasted it as the tubes were filled with oil and it was leaking out when heated for powdercoating so couldn't do it. Very reasonable, cost 60 - 70 quid to shaotblast a tubular backbone chassis. Also one in Warrington on Winstanly Ind Est which is a bit more expensive but good.

Cool thanks for the info mate, your not far away in warrington so it may be worth me stopping in to one of those guys. Cheers
