hi has anyone had any experience of powder coating ?
have just stripped the old tyres off my old white 8 spokes ready to recieve the bfg mt's but the wheels are in a bit of a state so just wondering if its very costly to have um done or get a paint brush out
nothing fancy i just want um black no frills
cheers

Powdercoating isn't cheap, and for normal, bog standered wheels for a Landy, I wouldn't say that it was worth it.

If it were me, I'd give them a good wash, get all the flackey stuff off with a flapper paddle on a grinder. Then a wipe over with white spirit. Then a couple of thin coats of Karust, followed by a couple of coats a Hamorite.

Or if they really are knacked, just buy some new ones.

What happens when you bash a powder coated rim and chip the paint? Are you gonna strip it down and send it off again? Get the hammerrite out I say!

looking the best route just did'nt know what the cost was have since chatted to the son-in-law and a mate of his has said i can use his sand blasting booth so hopefully that will get me off on the right track + i got more things to throw the cash at than just the wheels
cheers lads
thanks for the input

powder coating is about £50 a wheel and worth it you have the money.

But you cant beat hammerite and if done properly (i.e sanded down and primed before) can last a fair time

popped over to see the guy about the sand blasting he said he'd do um for me , so asked him about paint he said he got some that'll knock spots off hammerite . so asked him how much to blast um and spray um (for cash ;) )
said he'd do them for £60 so i thought fook it do a few hours OT the weekend jobs a goodun :D

Sounds like its gotta be well worth it, nice one ;)

get them bead blasted, get yourself a litre of etch primer and a litre of black commercial one pack and spray them. i sprayed my bike trailor wheels and they was a lot worse than the ones in your pic ! they now look brand new. brush painting looks rubbish, spraying is easy and the results are first class.
