They are not all that bad, I've had my L322 for 3 weeks now and all I've spent is £260 for service kit, oh and £140 for a battery, oh and £100 for a used jack and a light control module, oh and £200 on fuel
To be fair I only paid £5k for a Vogue with 101k on the clock, I new it had issues (fortunately no rust that I have found yet) so I can't complain.

I also have a winter car most years some times I have them for longer. I just have two sets of wheels when I can afford it, I never fail to get to work and have had lots of fun with them for very little money
Having had the following
Suzuki Vitara
Suzuki SJ
Range Rover Classic fitted with a Diahatsu engine
Series 3
Three 300TDI Discos
Currently got a P38 2.5 diesel and love it, its like an old armchair and excellent value
I do agree the simpler they are the more reliable they are .
The Suzukis where fantastic but no comfort.
I did like the 300TDis if you can find one that's had the rust sorted.
The P38 is early days yet, my point is look at your budget and keep a bit for possible repairs, a Vitara its £300 tops L322 I suspect a lot more

If it’s ‘Goldies’ charming diatribe then they have all vanished-bar his initial one that he/she pulled and I reposted.
I’m new here but not ‘new’....didn’t expect a personal attack out of nowhere straight off the bat so Goldie got a very very very mild ‘flash’ from me.
Bottom line-I don’t like bullies. Especially ones who hide behind keyboards. They deserve ridicule and putting in their nasty grubby little boxes. I only came on here for advice! It’s like that old Monty Python sketch.
Anyhow I now look forward to enagaging in constructive conversation and I bow to everyone’s superior knowledge on all things Landy!

Yes deposit paid but am away for Xmas but pick it up next week. Dec 2006 TDV8 Vogue SE with all the whistles and bells (and everything works! How long that will last is another thing I guess). FSH and mostly main dealer. New tyres all round plus a service thrown in (not main dealer but hey ho). Pretty excited about picking it up-totally different drive to the M Car but in a good way.

Don’t worry about that have been around the block a few times and have a few t-shirts (mostly stained) and I do live for good banter. I do take exception to keyboard warriors bumping their gums for no good reason hence my comments. If you can talk the talk then be prepared to back it up with the ‘walk’ part...!

Yes a sobering read! I’m going into this with both eyes wide open and have looked at lots of threads and reviews and generally been all obsessive about it (drives my missus up the wall as I’m a complete nightmare when it comes to car hunting-she just goes out and buys the first one).
Quick one on warranty-the car will come with 6 months warranty (I know some aren’t worth the paper they’re written on but better than nowt), after that any recommendations? I read two trains of thought:
A) get as good a warranty as you can
B) have a slush fund and don’t bother with warranty.
Any suggestions?

Difficult one that. Warranty companies often only cover major mechanical. They want something to fail before repair as opposed to signs of failure and going to fail sooner rather than later. Yer need to get some quotes and compare what they cover. Then sit back and think of the gamble factor of say £1000 spent on a warranty each year as opposed to investing the same amount int repairs and taking the gamble head on with a bit of £ left over for when it rains.

Glad I didn't go for the sport now.

Strange the L322 isn't in that list, specialy with another 3 faults appearing on mine today. There cropping up quicker than I can get rid of them
