The sidesteps came for my Disco today, while i was fitting them i noticed that the sill seam (bottom) was starting to rust, so far it has just swelled the seam, nothing too bad yet.

What would be the best way to hold this off, or nip it in the bud, i was thinking of getting rid of the loose bits with copper wheel on a drill, then kurust, then hammerite, then waxoyl is there any better way?...and would this hold it off for a year or so?

thanks

Rod

probably, depends how, erm, eeer, vigorous you are when playing in the mud. cos the only real downside to waxoyl is that you can wash/rub it of in mud/deep water.
but saying that you dont have a lot of choice really do you?
its either lots of wax or get the grinder out ( a little prematurely)

ps welcome to the wacky world of disco ownership, it's like the twilight zone; nowt is what it seems and as Neil Young once wrote:

RUST NEVER SLEEPS

Thanks for the reply trax, i remember when i owned my (don't laugh) 2CV i had to do loads of welding to the floor, i then cleaned well, and put some of that Hammerite underbody seal on, after a year of driving it in all weathers it seemed quite solid, but it wasn't a Land rover, not sure if it will be any good on one.

Do you or anyone else on here have experience of using this stuff on a Discovery, i think if i remember this stuff had waxoyl or something similar in it, and took forever to set/dry a month or two if i remember to completely dry.

Any more advice on this would be great :)

Howdy, 2cv's are great - used to go watch them race somewhere near Wolverhampton many years ago - insane angles on corners :eek:

as for the underseal, inside the vehicle I've just used smoothrite - if your sunroofs arent leaking at the moment ( you say you've fixed em) that should be enough, Iused a good thick coat - took about a week to dry fully but been ok since.
outside (underneath ??) clean the new steel and paint with a good quality undercoat ( local tractor dealers best place for this) then a thick coat of wax, then another thick coat of wax, then a few months later a thick coat of wax.
you should see a pattern emerging here :biggrin1::biggrin1:
