Post sludge electrical issues!

Afternoon chaos, hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of where to go next with my electrical issue

so I took my td5 disco2 to a pay and then play at the weekend and took her into some sludge, about half way up the front grill.

battery light was flashing intermittently and eventually it went flat leaving me stuck, so I grabbed an Uber to the nearest Wilco motosave, grabbed a battery, popped it on and flew home.
I then replaced the alternator, checked the f24 fuse, and removed and cleaned all the Earth wires and terminals from the battery.

However my alternator is still not doing anything according to the multimeter, at idle or otherwise, the battery has drained again and I’ve had to dump the truck and leg it home on foot. Am I missing something here as to why I’m not getting a charge? Is there anything I can do to pinpoint the problem more specifically? I’m going to tow it back later and have another look but I’m 3 days in and taking it to a garage is looking likely

Does sound like the sludge has messed it up.
Probably a myriad of ways how, Me no leccy chappi, but maybe it generated powere and shorted itself with all the wet, or stuffed the diode pack, dunno really.
Could get a rebuilt one cheaper than a new un, or take yours off and get it rebuilt if you have the time.

Where did you measure for alternator output?... on the battery? if yes check on maxi fusible link FL1 where it's connected to the thick brown wire cos that's direct to the alternator, i've seen cases when FL1 was blown

I did check from the battery...I removed the fusible link to check for damage but didn’t check the wire...I will try a test from there thank you

ive tried both ways in regards to a newish alternator from a breaker and cleaned my old one up and tried that back on too, no joy

Well best of luck with it all.
Just saying that I always use a local bloke who does nothing but recondition starters, alternators and the old dynamos if you've got one.
Family business, good and nearly half the price of a new one.
Also the only guy to go to when working on really old stuff, wifey's autoshift aircooled Beetle based car frinstance. even he had a job to get parts for the starter, but he managed it.
