Hi all,

I've done a search which has left me a little confused over the subject and I'm starting to get a little worried about re registering my 90 when I've finished it. I've got the original v5 etc but I have replaced a large number of the original parts e.g galv chassis, td5 bulkhead, nearly all new body work, new diffs and halfshafts, new rear axle etc etc.

What are the chances of me being able to reuse the original number plate rather than go onto a q plate, also has anyone else who has finished a rebuild had any issues?

Thanks

Albert

Just keep your mouth shut. I think all this is crazy

And, prospectively, be uninsured

Where did you get the chassis. Is it classed as, or can you get them to put on writing, that it is a "standard replacement defender chassis - galvanised"

That might be enough. I hove you have destroyed the old chassis though?

I don't understand it all but isn't there a points system to it all?

Also surely if its all like for like, as in if it started life as a CSW and you have replaced all the body work but kept it as a CSW then no need for a Q plate?

It's a commercial and will be left as a commercial, chassis has got a few additions on it though such as td5 rear crossmember and tank brackets. Still got the old chassis although it has been cut up

If its all like for like eg coil sprung 90 axles replaced with other coil sprung axles, rear tub replaced with another 90 tub . Then you are replacing components eg maintaining vehicle.
Its just that you have done it in one hit rather than , a diff here a hub another week brake discs the week after . Ifg it was a series and youve put coils, fitted V8 and had to replace crossmembers then thats a different matter altogether . So if it started as a 90 4 cylinder 2.5 ltre and is still a 90 4 cylinder 2.5ltr thgen dont see any problems with regard to having to inform anyone. If you have lifted the suspension then I would tell ins co. , and probably be wise to try and get an agreed value on your policy .

If your original chassis was mint and you had the brackets welded on then it would be fine so i doubt your new like for like chassis with a couple of extra brackets will be a problem.

i've fitted Pressbrake X member and MIB modified outriggers along with various other odds and sods on the chassis. I really don't feel the need to notify them. I have disclosed all the mods to the insurance company.

You can do either as it will be immeadiately obvious that its been stamped on by other than LR . I stamped my 90 in several places , just in case it goes walkies ! Telling DVLA anything is always a gamble . Probably better to just do it in stages , as listing the lot might frighten them !

I think I'll put several plates on it, one where the number should be and a few hidden elsewhere. I'm going to treat it as a number of replacement parts which I think is legal as any additions in making shouldn't concern the dvla, just the insurance
