:doh:I cleaned out all of the inlet manifold and intercooler this weekend and put the egr blanking plate on, 1 bolt was siezed so had to cut it out and removed the water hose from the top of the block, it looked like there was no antifreeze in the syatem so i drained it from the drain hole on bottom pipe below radiator and filled with 5 litres of the red stuff. The system is supposed to take 11.5 litres but was full after the 5 litres of antifreeze, I have removed all the air from the system and it took another litre of water topup, now though the electric fan on the front is on all the time from starting up cold. went for a 20 mile run yesterday after removing air to get car hot, the heater works fine the hoses are HOT, BUT the radiator is stone cold, there is water movement in the header tank also.(i have the little water stream from small pipe from top of radiator)

Could a sensor have gone, as the fan is always on even when first starting from cold?

Have you changed the viscous fan for an electric fan then?

If so then yes it's probably a temp sensor fault or the sensor needs adjusting.

Otherwise it's a viscous fan thats driven by the serpentine belt so will run all the time the engine is running.

:D no, ive not added an electric fan, and I know the viscous fan runs all the time, the fan I refer to is at the front on the first radiator, behind the grill. It runs all the time the engine is running ever since i drained and refilled the cooling system.

The aircon fan.

Have you tried turning the aircon off?:p

YES!!!:p Heater/aircon unit is switched off, it runs from when the engine is started until the engine is shut off, its only started to do this since replacing the coolant:confused:

I've never had the luxury of aircon on a landy so I don't know too much about it. Does the aircon work ok?

Not sure, have not used it since last year, will have to try it out. I have only had this problem since draining the water coolant and refilling so thought it must be related....posibly a sensor gone etc...

Hi, seems that the aircon fan is activated as a supplementary cooling aid when the normal(viscous)fan is not enough;it is on untill a reset(Testbook or other) is done.Just seen it on a forum, doesn't happend to me...yet!
Funny thing... I just fitted a new aircon fan on my td5 Disco and I can't start it to check if the blades are normaly positioned as pusher thru the radiator.
