Just had to do a frong and rear bearing on my p38. The noise was bad but no play but once the bearings off the car they were eell notchy. Your really need somebody to drive it while you change position in the car to find the noisy one
Ive had a few people sat in the back and they all say its coming from both sides
Now i cant see both bearings going at the same time
Plus it makes a real racket with the smallest of inputs ie. At 70mph it does it with just the small inputs to just to stay in the lane (ie. no weight shift)
And i had the caravan on the back the other week and it made no differace at all
Im thinking diff and the vibrations are coming up the mounts on both sides? but if anyone wants to meet me and come for a spin to diagnose your more than welcome
diff consistis of 4 bearings 2 for the pinion that normally show noise on overrun first ,and 2 carrier bearings that would show noise under load (and possibly show in the oil ),its is normal for wheel bearings to be worse when cornering as weight goes more to one side ,you can get stiff ujs in props that dont show play but can be felt ,is your v/c seizedI keep being told wheel bearings so Is there any other bearing hiding in the back end?
Just thinking if its not too much of a big job i might just have both bearings changed to eliminate them
Eather that or theres a guy on ebay selling a whole back axle for £70 would that be a big job? At least i know ive replaced the problem then
most things are worse under load ,and sometimes symptoms arent as youd normally expect but until it goes bang or you rule out stuff your never going to know, you could feel for play in diffs both backlash and diff gears front and back ,same with t/box ,try it with front prop off, drain a little oil out and check it
I know im just a tight arse and dont like spending money and time on somthing thats not broke
