After 6 months of p38 ownership it finally did what at some point i knew it would! mind you is 6 months that bad for 1 of these lol:D had been running a bit lumpy all day then suffered a big loss of power as i tried to overtake a learner and the came to a spluttering stop 1000 yards later! I think it might be the coil but who knows. Its now outside local garage adfter being recovered by aa after a 3 hour wait. the joy!

It's either fuel or electric. Start with fuel pump, can you hear a whirring noise when key is turned to just before ignition? It can be hard to hear. It helps to have someone listen while you turn the key. Your fuel filter may be clogged, so check for that. Move on to electrical stuff after looking at these issues.

dont think its fuel related cos its got a gas conversion and it wont work on either. tried switching it over when i was having probs and it made no difference. Let garage have a look. got the extra breakdown cover with aa so only pay first 25 quid of a bill an they cover 500.

ok well have an update! my car is shagged. Its not the coil, its not the injectors. At a loss now, had loads of tests done on it. misfiring on cylinders 5678. also have low compression on a few cylinders as well. Its not ever smoked and doesnt run hot. only thing wrong was the tappets needed ding. surely this cant have done so much damage. Looking like heads of next so getting expensive :frusty:

only thing wrong was the tappets needed ding.

Usually with Rover V8s if the tappets sound bad enough to "need doing" then you've left it far, far too late, you're probably missing a couple of lobes off the camshaft by now and the swarf is already busily burying itself into every bearing area it can find...

lol thanks for bringing me such happy news! they benn tapping a couple of months now. only started intermittently at first but got worse. not what i needed anyway

the timing chain could have jumped a tooth and that puts out cam timing and ignition timing i have seen the sprockets worn on these engines

well its only done 110000 which aint exactly loads. god knows. its at the garage now so hes jus gonna have to dig a little deeper tommrrow
