Merry Christmas to the LZ massive!
My 97 P38 4.6 played up for the first time ever yesterday leaving me stranded in the local B&Q car park.
Started fine, first spin, then idled at about 800 rpm as it always does (did?) Pulling away the engine bogged down and began chugging like a petrol car with a carb and choke full on. I drove for about 6 miles, engine running smooth, but when a junction came, it would bog down and chug as if 'on choke'
I pulled into the local B&Q car park, just as the engine dies, checked the GEMS engine management with my Nanocom but no faults found. Took about 20 mins of trying to start the engine before it would run - held revs at 2500 for 10 mins or so, engine would idle and run perfect.
Drove it back to storage, switched off left for 5 mins, fault back - plumes of black smoke and choke effect back.
Does anyone have an idea of what's going on?
Merry Christmas to all - Have a good one

Plumes of black smoke, choking... Sounds awfully like the MAF has gone :( Try unplugging the MAF and drive it for a wee bit. If it seems to run better, it may point to the MAF being dead. I would imagine it's drinking petrol like an alkie with a litre of gin...
