has anyone tried fitting police spec rr classic springs to a disco 1?? talking to a chap the other day he said he tries all sort of spec springs from bearmach to OME springs and said the best he had come across for ride comfort articulation and load carrying was the police spec (which pi**ed him off after trying OME as they only cost £15 a pop for the police spec) i have fitted a winch recently and the front of the disco is down an inch or so,which makes it feel more planted in corners, is still a bit of a concern any body help?!? cheers.:confused:

Not relevant I know but, I supposedly had police spec rear springs on me RRC,
so thats what previous owner said.
Didn't make a blind bit of difference, it still handled like a boat!
I gotta disco one I will be scrapping VERY soon, if you want owt PM me:D
 
I've been looking into fitting firmer spring's but not the heavy duty ones, so as not to spoil ride comfort too much. Quite a few have told me to fit plod spec. spring's as firmness wise they are a decent option. Only difference between them and HD's is the rated poundage.
 
apparently they are progressive, soft to a point then firm up under load but they don't roll too much! i am used to boats so that wont be a problem!
 
i had a 2 door rangie once with a 3.8 perkins lump in it, i was recommended to fit the police spec springs on and it had 4 rear heavy duty (normal v8 rangie wouldnt need reras on front) it had monroe gas shocks and a polybus hard kit and it didnt roll any more than a normal car and the police spec springs werent hard on the ride, i thought they did the job well.

i currently have a disco 1 v8 with tdi front springs and heavy duty rear springs and fitted with 4 pro comp gas shocks and again a polybush kit and this car doesnt roll any more than the wifes 300tdi disco 1 which has standard oil shocks and springs and standard rubber bushes but........ has antiroll bars.

the big difference to the roll and handling is down to the shockers, ditching the 10 quid a piece oil ones and fitting gas shock makes all the difference in the world.

ive always found no matter what the "duty" of the springs they all ride the same till you load or tow with it then heavy duty are more up to the job.

im on with welding and repirs to the wifes 300tdi and am considering a kit off ebay like this without the 2 inch lift.

personally i would use the police spec again as the ride isnt compromised (it doesnt make it back jarring or anything) and they come into their own when you need them to.
 
Just ordered a st of RR police springs will report back how they work is there a fitting guide on here ?
