i bit the bullet and got p38 1998 2.5 manual plugged in yesterday and there was 2 faults on it

egr fault
fuel pump fault

the fault i have s when i stop at traffic lights and go to set off injector light flashes then engine tries to die so let off throttle and it will run ok

so blocked egr vac pipe to eliminate that and still doing it

any ideas before new pump ordered

Don't know what diagnostics you used but I'm not aware of any fault being reported for the EGR or the fuel pump, unless of course it means the fuel injection pump.
You need some diagnostics that read sensible faults.
Injector light flashing is usually either the CPS or the needle lift sensor on #4 injector.

Get it on some proper diag. There is no diagnostic reporting of lift pump faults. The only EGR fault you can get would relate to EGR modulator. The pump fault will be related to the injection pump. If that is all you are getting out of the dozens of specific fault codes related to that item the diag is pretty poor.

It was the brand new snap on wireless diagnosis set we used im going again tmra cos I got a p38 im breaking down there and will plug it in again and note the codes down

Wammers a few people have said cps and needle lift sensor

The snap-on does not do the diesel properly as far as i know. Go again and come back with a proper story.

as wammers said check egr Solinoid, its on the bulkhead behind the eas valve block, and check egr clean it if nessasery :)

EGR modulator valve won't show a fault code either.

Don't know if it does or doesn't but seeing as it and the MAF are the only EGR parts that are electrical apart from the ECU EGR section itself, they are the only parts that could do. The MAF certainly throws an airflow fault if disconnected.

There is no feedback from the EGR modulator valve that I can see, it may show a fault if the coil is OC or disconnected.
