please help

Hi all my freelander 1.8 petrol 2004 has been stood for 3 week drove fine but have come to start it today and it clicks as if the battery it flat. Battery is fine but when I tried to bump it the wheels locked up and I cant rock it in 5th. Cant work out what it could be any ideas would be most appreciated.

when you say battery is fine have you tested it under load or evan tried a jump start from another car or battery

Hi I have fitted a new battery and tried jumping. It seems as if the engine is seized but there is no reason for it to be it was drove last week and it was fine.

did you check the dip stick to see if it is doing its job

Just took the air filter off and loads of water has ran out of the throtle body any ideas now

No its never been off road at all it was my mums from new and its only done 40.000 miles and she has recently gave it to me. It has been leaking water for ages but couldnt find where it was leaking. But it has been driving fine other than that.

could be HGF
Do not need to go off roads to wad a 6" water puddle in the road will do it.Hope she did not hydro lock it. take spark plugs out and see if it pumps out water

Cylinder head gasket maybe? It may have filled a cylinder up with water, As someone else said, take out the plugs and turn over the engine. Don't be near the engine compartment when you do it.

Sounds like hydraulic lock. Had something similar on an old peugot I used to have. Head gasket seems to be the prime suspect. maybe a little hole allowing water to seep into cylinder over a few days. Lucky, I snapped the starter motor casting turning it over. To be fair, it was cheap French crap.

Hi all thanks for the help took out the spark plugs and spat out about 2 litre of water out of all 4 cylinders put it back together and it runs lovely. I'm thinking head gasket but the water isn't mixing with oil what do I need doing shall I do the HG.

Head gasket is my vote unless the block is cracked. HG is the cheapest option. Once the water is out it will probably run ok but problem will recur if the car is left for any length of time. Problem will get worse too. Do the HG before you cause serious damage to the engine

Sorry forgot to mention, the reason water and oil is not mixing is that the break in the gasket is in the water / piston section not the water / oil section. The piston rings will stop the water going down into the sump.

Can't understand, if it was the HG how all 4 ciylinders have water in them

Your head gasket has a split between 2 cylinders, get it changed quickly as it is cheaper than a new motor. change thermostat as well, and flush the radiator as well. might as well do it right

I'm not an expert but shouldyou be running it, surely it will keep doing this. I am half way through fixing a similar problem if you get away with just the HG you are very lucky.

The only other explanation is a cracked block if you are 100% sure it hasn't been in water. If you checked the engine coolant, was it missing a drop. Well 1800cc worth. I suggest HG. That's what I would be checking if it was mine.

Is there any way the water could get from the inlet manifold to the ciylinders

anythings possible but sealant on k series head gaskets is prone to fail
