Hi please can someone help me to locate the plug used to fill the gearbox with transmission fluid on my 1999 p38 auto diesel.
Having searched the forums I cannot locate any dipstick on my vehicle but neither can I locate the plug used as the level indicator and filler and so at a complete loss as to what to do next.
Regards

Thanks but could you elaborate as there are plugs on either side of the gearbox
Thanks
Julie

Thanks for your reply, is it the one with the allen key fitment please or the 19mil nut

Our only concern was that local land rover dealer said it would take 10 litres to fill and this doesn't seem feasible with the plug being on the sump. Should we run the engine during filling?

they hold about 9 from dry but you can only drain 4-5 litres out ,level must be checked with engine running in neutral ,run through gears till you feel each select then put in neutral and check level ,should just trickle out

Thank you very much you have been a massive help, hopefully we will manage to sort it tomorrow
Regards
Julie

use atf dexron 2 or 3 which ever the cheapest if you need oil ,be wary of dealer if he tells you you need 10 litres ,hes either ignorant or over charging
