Disco 2 V8, I was driving 2 miles from home and the oil light came on as I was pulling into my drive the engine started to make a very bad noise and oil is everywhere, is this really bad news or not? I really dread to think as I am skint. Thanks.

Hi srm, sorry tohear about your trouble. You will need to get the engine cleaned so as you can see where the oil is coming from. Before you try starting theengine again check the oil level. It could be something simple enough. After u check the oil and start it see if the oil light goes out on the dash. If you need a hand I'm off on Thursday give me a shout.

SRM , you will need to check that pipe that came off and make sure it's not blocked. It could have became blocked and the pressure of the engine may have blown it off. Take as mush as u can of it off the engine and stick something up the inside of it to make sure it's clear. Do this before you try and start it again. You may be lucky but 2 miles with the oil light on is a terrible distance.

I think I must be the luckest S.O.B on the planet, the disco seems to be in good shape, took the kids to school in her and she is running sweet. I won't hold my breath to long though................just incase.

I will be changing the oil in a few days to see what it's like so I will let you know, fingers crossed eh!!!

if you had an additive in the oil before hose blew you may be OK, I pour a full 1lt bottle of morrey's heavy duty into mine at every oil change to reduce wear and just for such occasions as you have experienced, never know when an oil line gets ripped or broken in bush, it won't protect it for long though, just enough to shut your motor down once you realise something is a miss.
