Please help a newbie!!!

Hi Guys,
Am new to this and need some help. I am a lady with very little knowledge of cars and I am desperately trying to find someone to help me with my freelander td4(on a 53 plate.) It won't start and I had a guy put it on an OBD machine which said it had a fault code of P0301. He said this meant that I needed a new high pressure fuel pump. He said he could replace it for me but unfortunately hasn't done so. I need to know if this non start diagnosis sounds right and also if anyone knows of a good mobile mechanic in poole. I have tried calling a couple of local garages who say they don't want to do the work on the car as it is a nitemare! Please can anyone advise me. I need the car and have no idea where to go next with this.

A P0301 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #1.

OBD code P0301 relates to No 1 cylinder misfire so don't know where the HP pump failure came from. You should really get the fault codes read by either a LR dealer or a LR independent garage who, I am pretty sure, would be more than happy to carry out whatever repairs are required. If you let us know your approx location someone may be able to recommend a suitable garage/mobile mechanic. If you could let us know if there were any symptoms before it failed to start (misfire, black smoke, loss of power etc) we could probably make a few educated (or otherwise) guesses. Took me a few minutes to think of a reply so beaten to the misfire answer

Hi guys thanks for all your help. Took your advice about general fault codes. Scrolled down previous threads and found mechanic called Stunning Services in Boscombe. Gave him a call and he said same stuff as you about faulty injector and whether had power loss or misfiring. I never had any of these it just stopped working and wouldnt start. Hes gonna come to collect car Tuesday for diagnosis so will let you know what outcome is. Am really grateful for all your help as have family funeral next Friday so desperately need car fixed.

Sounds like you're sorted, if you get any more problems then a quick search on here will give you most answers

You might be 'top totty', but if you don't mind getting dirt under your finger nails this place will save you a lot of money on fixes for the common Td4 problems. If your manicure costs more than the service you will at least learn enough to know if your mechanic is trying to rip you off

You might want to pop over to the introduce youurself forum and say high as well, it's forum protocol to introduce yourself to the masses, once you've done that put on your rhino skin and get ready for the ribbing
