I wonder if anyone can help???? my 2005 freelander was de frosting this morning with the key in it and the key fob was detached so I thought I could lock the car and all would be nice and warm when defrosted! how wrong was I!! when I returned to my car the car would not open, so I thought the battery may have gone, after a taxi ride to the garage I replaced the battery but nothing. so two hours later my car was sill running on the drive, I had to call the aa and ask them to break into my car. I called my dealer who told me it I would need my key fob reprograming, has this happened to anyone else? they said it will be £50 :confused2:

this is quite old info, may no longer apply to your year of car but no harm in trying it.......

unlock car with key
hold remote control close to car
press either button of the remote 5 time in quick succession
insert ignition key and switch on

yep as above, it should be in the manual.

Such a common problem in Rovers and MG's. You think there would be a warning sticker inside the fob cover?

An ex-girlfriend had a Rover 216 and bought a new fob battery at the local shopping centre.
She didn't press the fob quickly in succession, so stranded at the shopping centre, she even went in and asked the guy for the old battery back lol
She didn't even phone me to ask :( did she heck? that's why she's an ex ;)

why did you not use the 2nd key to unlock the vehicle ? (good old fashioned mechanical technology?)

(as a side issue, insurance null and void when you leave vehicle unattended with engine running)
