Playing an IPod in a 2008 Range Rover.

Hi everyone,

I've just bought a 2008 RR Vogue SE and there is no method I can see to connect my IPod to the sound system. Obviously I'd like the IPod to be kept charged when it connected.

I spoke to the local main dealers, they said the car either came with a connection or didn't, and there is no way to retro-fit one. Really, that is hard to believe.

I spoke to a local auto-electrician, (with a great reputation), and he spoke to his suppliers, and they haven't come forward with a solution yet either.

I traded in a 2006 Jag Sovereign for the RR and that car had an IPod attachment fitted when I bought the car 6 or 7 years ago. As I said, I think it is hard to believe a company like Range Rover don't have a solution. Can someone advise please? If the IPod is a no-go I could use an IPhone 5 instead. Many thanks. Alasdair.
 
I don't know, but does the car have Bluetooth? If it does, can you not link via bluetooth and use a USB charger?
I use a high power stereo FM transmitter to link music from a tablet or phone etc to the radio.
 
Surely there's at least an AUX input somewhere...cubby box????........come to think of it, LR were still fitting cassette players into RR's in 2002.
 
Thanks, but the AUX input won't charge the IPod, there is no bluetooth in an Ipod, even if there were, again it wouldn't charge it. And guess what? There is no USB connection either for a memory stick... hard to believe.

What I'm looking for is a solution I can retro fit now.

There is an aux connection in the rear passengers compartment built into the back of the cubby between the two front seat - its where the earphone jacks are for inbuilt DVD players. I run a cable to the front and use the plug inside the cubby to charge the phone whilst playing. On your audio screen on the touch screen you have to select aux. Works for me.
 
What type of connector do I need for the Aux input and can I connect my iphone via this connection. I have tried to connect my iphone via the ipod connector but for some reason it won't connect to the system.
My car is a 2010 range rover vogue and all I want to do is connect my google maps on my phone to my range rover audio?

Can't be done.
You might get audio though the connector, but there's absolutely no way to get images from a phone to the screen on these vehicles. The audio system was designed long before the I phone or any other smart phone was developed, so there's no inclusion for such a thing.

You can do the audio via the stereo audio input jack in the rear, centre console between the front seats. You will need to charge with one of the cigarette lighter sockets and a usb adapter. If you have a modern iphone with no audio out then you need to buy an adapter, lightning port to usb power and aux out. You can buy them in any motorway services.

I have the ipod connector and a usb charger in my 2011 Vogue SE Autobiography - but it’s crap. Playing the ipod through the interface loses almost all of the vocals and bass. So I still use the Aux audio in in the rear cubby and the USB for power. So even though I suspect you can convert it - it’s not worth the effort.

M just got 1 of these for ours INVERY Airdual bluetooth adapter for Audi MMI AMI Mercedes BMW Mini – Airdual Bluetooth Adapter - Airdual

Now see can listen to anything on her phone, It will also play audio from google maps through the car.
It plugs in to the Ipod connector in the center cubby box and connects via bluetooth to the phone.
