Hello all

I'm relatively new to LR. Already sorted a broken sunrrof drain thing thanks to this forum, evreything else seems to be in order otherthan....

sitting on the drive, not moving, the steering wheel has 'play' not measured it scientifically but i reckon about 1" either side of centre. is this normal, should I look into it a bit more.

If it helps it's a 2000 V8 auto

that's a relief, i only had 'normal' cars before the Disco and we have Vauxhall Zafira too and that has zero play in the steering. I had a Pug 307 before the Disco and everything was loose on that heap so not a good comparison, only thing it had going for it was comfortable seats.
Will not worry about steering for now then and ask the local independant to give it a good once over couple weeks before MOT in April

You can reduce it by adjuster on the top of the steering box, a bit tight in there tho'. I had play in my 300tdi and took the slack out the box using this which made a big difference but on a later occasion whilst under the front I grabbed the steering drop arm..........it was loose. After tightening this up my steering is now like a normal car.

check ALL the ball joints, make sure the drop arm it fookin tight, also check the adjustment on the steering box.

1" either side does seem a little much, 3/4" would be about right :D
