Afternoon folks
Now that the immediate jobs are out of the way, its time too look at the bigger things. There is a serious amount of play in the forward drive. Rear axle seems fine but the front axle is getting pretty bad. I haven't actually disconnected the prop at either end yet, so obviously the play is in both the diff and the trans. We're talking about 20-25 degrees of play when turning by hand with vehicle in gear, clunking at both ends.
Obviously the next job to do is to d/c the shaft at each end separately to get an idea of where is worse but I was just wondering what sort of job it is to resolve this kind of thing. I'm not too worried about the diff as I don't think this would be toooo hard for me to refurbish but what about the transfer end? I don't mind a little bit of play but there is too much. Even on the smoothest of take-offs, the disco will gently "kangaroo" it way up to 30mph.
Cheers
