Hi all, just removed head from my td5 discovery that i've recently acquired, due to pressuring cooling system and overheating on long run. Turns out head gasket has been done recently but badly, all bolts were too easy to undo and i suspect old ones re used, maybe more than once as car done 216000 and more importantly one of locating dowels is not fitted and other is damaged so just really lokking for advice on whether to fit plastic or metal dowels as one i removed is metal but car is 1999 t reg and i read a couple of articles that state fitting metal dowels to an engine that should have plastic could cause damage, even though i can,t figure out why. So really all that typing and i'm just asking metal or plastic?

metal.

I got an early TD5, had the head done because the Plastic dowl warped causing the head to shift.
