Hey guys,

a few weeks ago my disco 2 developed a very annoying noise. Like something plastic is loose and causing a knocking sound when car shakes vertically (bumpy road).

I was able to identify the area and I'm 99.9% sure it's coming from somewhere near the grab handle, inside the headlining.

Any thoughts?

Take a look at the plastic shelf where the sun-shields are.. this unit is screwed into plastic studs that press fit into metal 'lugs' on the roof of the car. maybe one of these lugs has fallen out?.. it would imply that the shelf would also be a little loose by one of the screw holes

Removed everything on that side today. Dropped the headlining, removed seat belt adjuster, b pillar, everything. Wasn't able to find the source :(

One thing I noticed is that the noise is much more pronounced when driving with the door (driver's) opened. So it must be something about the door not 'closing' sufficiently... So I put a heavy rag on top of the door frame and closed it so the rag is putting pressure and helping sealing. Noise stopped! Any clues?

Wind dragging the door seal ?
Can you put some support plastic in the tube bit ?

Interesting... What do you mean by support plastic?
On some vehicles you can squeeze in the outer insulation sleeve of a suitable cable to 'fill' part of the seal that has become slack ...
if that makes any sense at all at this time of night ...

or splash out on new seals ...

So, recorded a video of the knocking noise that's driving me crazy. The door was semi open because I noticed this makes the noise more pronounced. (The noise still occurs with door wide open so not sure if it's related or not. BUT it does seem to decrease if I put a heavy rag on top of the door frame so it pushes the seal rubber harder)

I have a rattle on my passenger door, not all the time
Turns out to be the plastic button that locks and unlocks door rattling

Same here mark. My drivers door button rattles when engine is cold as does a few other things under the steering wheel. Keep meaning to take door card off as I'm sure it's missing the bit of plastic sheet that would hold the bar tight and stop it rattling.
