There ain't much to shout home about living in old blighty under the
present scheme of high taxes and OTT political correctness etc.

But I've always fancied living down-under, well they do speak the same
lingo and drive on the same side of the road as us.

I am too old for change and I'm always on my own soapbox whinging about
this or that, anyway it wouldn't make any different to me where I lived,
I'd still be able to moan for England.

I live in an old Viking village just over the Mersey from Liverpool,
maybe the moaning has rubbed off on me :)

Steve.

But you do need culture out there ! Hence whinging POMs. :))))

When I was over there ( 1980 ) had the time of my life with honest upfront
people, especially in the outback. Absolutely loved every minute of it.

They do that here too you know, they've got a reputation for it in
fact! It's nice to know that there's one less in the country ;-)

Try listening to some of the podcasts from ABC radio, Oz's equivalent
to the BBC, strangely enough you'll find that aussies are human too,
and have race riots, complaints about political correctness (the
latest at least allowed them to still refer to us as "Poms" as long as
it wasn't meant in a derogatory manner) and all the other stuff that
apparently only happens in this country.

We do have a lot more whingeing poms over here than they do though!

Just been and checked now - there weren't any there before, and it seems
he didn't donate me any. :)

Welcome to the club - it's going much the same way here.

Hence why I'm living here - my Dad made that decision a few years before
I was born.

I spent my time as a fireman working with a big, ugly, Scouser with an
attitude problem, but the one thing he didn't do was whinge about
anything and he was excellent at his job.

Unfortunately if you've opened the sealed plastic bag he was delivered
in then you've violated the license agreement, this was made plain in
the instruction booklet located inside the plastic bag, sorry about that!

Donate??? the only thing the scousers "donate" in live is community
service.......everything else comes at a price. Just be wary when he turns
up for work in a suit and asks for an hour off around midday!

Ha! You ought to hear the off-duty Aussie & Kiwi bar staff in
London (usually in two groups - one either end of the bar).... ;-)

LOL!

Not to far from the old Viking village I live in is a huge sandstone
rock, funnily enough called "Thor's Stone", its actually on the map.

You do have a very good point, a newsgroup is not the place to post shopping
lists to dealers, Richard posts him url and email in his sig, anyone wanting
to buy parts should do it via one of those.

Perhaps if you had raised your point in a more positive fashion, you would
have got more positive replies.

That would be one way round it, but you shouldn't need to.

The whole point of a newsgroup is to ask questions of, or impart information
to, anybody who reads the group. If you have a question for a specific
person, then contact that person direct, off group. Someone's shopping list
does not need to be public knowledge, and is irrelevant to the group. That's
what email is for.

Don't think there will ever be agreement on the origins of the word Pom or
Pommie. But we know they don't like soap, or work, and whinge a great deal. And
I'm told they can't play cricket either.

I last went back to Old Blighty back in about '87. I was amazed at how things
had changed in so many ways, mostly for worse. Weather was a bit ordinary too.
And it was so cold when I was cycling round London - here I'm used to cycling
pretty much all year round, and cold means around 10°C. Only mad dogs &
Englishmen go out in the sun in summer, of course, but at 6 am it's just
wonderful in mid summer. I start work in my air conditioned office at around
7:30 am, it's in the server room so the air temp is nice & comfy.

Can't see myself ever leaving here now, far too nice a country. We just need to
get rid of our lousy, useless politicians, same as in most countries.
