Hi,

I'm just about to take delivery of a 1970 S2a (2.25 petrol). The current owner puts Redex in it occasionally. Is this necessary, and what does it do? What sort of fuel is best?

The landy is a 1970 model, and I want to sort the insurance. Can anybody recommend a favourite insurer? It will be for my partner and I, won't be doing zillions of miles, and ideally, pay monthly by direct debit.

Anybody used Hiclone on a 2a?

Any help appreciated.

Chris.

Hi Chris, over a period of time carbon deposits build up on the cylinder head, the addition of Redex every now and again was supposed to burn this of thus improving combustion and performance, I have used it myself but always used to do an oil and filter change shortly after, I have not seen it for years now and assumed it was no longer avaiable.
Hope this helps.
Bani.

Bani,

Thanks for that. Can I just use normal unkleaded, then? The engine hasn't been modified.

Thanks,

Chris.

Chris, if the engine is unmodified you will have to use 4 star if you can still find any ! if you use unleaded you will need to use an additive which I think most garages sell, you just put a small amount in with your petrol, your engine will not have the hardened valves that are needed to use unleaded petrol.

Hi, I've just insure my 64 series 2a for £63 fully comp, limited to 3000 miles per annum. with the classic car division of:
Boncaster Ltd

Keep using Redex it is an uppercylinder lubricant. and should lessen valve resession due to the use of unleaded petrol. It does what it says on the bottle.Just to be on the safe side keep using Lead replacement additive.A few dtops down the carburettor every now and then will nearly do a decoke job.

Hi,

So I don't just put whatever type of Redex into the fuel tank?

Anybody know how much it costs to convert the cylinder head (?) to unleaded?

Thanks,

Chris.

So, all of you out there with petrol engines, do you use Lead replacement stuff? I need to know what I have to do. Is this the best way forward?

Thanks,

Chris.

See it costs about the same as getting the head done. I know which one I would go for. Before you buy ask has anyone else bought one,and what it turned out like.

get the head done.

this type of product has all the same qualities as snake oil. as for the hiclone!
