Today my fuel pump arrived for the RR 4.0

I followed Canyons thread with regards to the measurement of cutting through the boot floor (Well pleased Canyon cheers ;))

But to answer my earlier question 'Will the measurements be the same for Petrols as well as Deisels?'.............. Yes they are! The pump is in the exact same spot! :D

As you can see from the pics below the connections to the fuel pipes from the old pump are nearly corroded through and will snap off if i try and undo it any further!

Im going to have to get the two pipes made up to replace the corroded ones (from the in line filter to the pump), But i cant work out how the pipes would connect to the top of the fuel pump?? Can i not just use a length of ful pipe and use small jubilee clips to fasten to the pump??

Changed the fuel pump on mine a while back, looks a similar state to the how mine was.
I dropped the whole tank to avoid damaging the pipes, came out easy enough but was a PITA to reconnect the large filler flexi hose.

When I undid the pump connections the pipes just sheared clean off due to the corrosion but the threads on the flow and return pipe were still ok so it looked worse than it was.

If you're looking at replacing the pipes you're gonna need to drop the tank, the connections look pretty bad but if you can get the nuts off the pipes maybe salvagable?
A lot easier to do with the tank off than through the access panel.

Would suggest if you drop the tank it's worth cleaning it out at the same time. Forgot to do this on mine, having lots of probs with it sucking crap out of the bottom of the tank so will need to drop it again...not lookin forward to that.

When i manage to get the connections off should i be able to reuse them?

Im struggling to see (In me head) How it would attatch to the pipes sticking out the top of the pump because the pipes sticking out the pump are litrally staight bits with no connection?

Glad my write up was of some use you. The corrosion o the fuel pipes looks worse than it it actually is, I had big chunks of rust comming away and it still managed to remove them. I did use lots of wd40/ penetrating oil etc soaking into them for a while.

I also bought spare 8mm olives for the pipework.

The connections are just compression fit...the nuts go onto the fuel pump pipe stubs first, the olives go on after (might be worth heating the olives up as they can be a tight fit).
The flow and return pipes simply push on to fuel pump and you tighten the nuts over the olives onto the threaded ends.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the info guys, iv been back at work so not done any more to taking the old pump out since, but will get straight back onto it when im next on my 4 days off work!

Quite looking forward to it :)

Thanks for the confidence with the corroded pipes ;)
