Gonna get my disco back "on the road" in the next little while (no tax or test at mo), intend to have a few good days/weekends out this summer but I'm not a member of any clubs at the moment.

Here's the thing, I'd love to do a weekend in the peak district if possible. I've no problem with planning a route, meeting place etc (got time on my hands) as long as someone'll check it over. May need someone else to take the lead on the day though as I'm not sure the mrs'll be able to learn to read a map in time (like banging head on brick wall).

So, just guaging interest and support at the moment, feel free to comment (any advice much appreciated) but please try to keep it amicable, other than tame solo trips this'll be the first I've had much to do with planning.

Nice one, I'd be up for a weekend/bit longer away, but need dates early to book off .. ;)

Cool, I'll see what I can work out as far as the route goes. Aiming to have the disco back late may/early june but this'll probably be late june ish.

Aiming for more of a challenge than I've had before so possibly one for the more capable "trucks", not that I know what the lanes are like out that way (I know it's nearly as wet as wales though!).

Anyone happy to find out if the lanes are legal/usable for me (once I've found them all etc)?

Someone wanna be lead vehicle? I spend most days navigating at the wheel so would rather not have to in playtime if you see what you mean...

I know plenty of lanes around the peaks and a mate of mine will gladly lead if i ask him, theres enough lanes to run a full day if not the whole weekend.

Cheers Gonzo, I'll get something sorted and p.m. it across for you to have a look at. How many miles would you say was managable per day (using lanes as much as possible); Obviously it won't be as many as on tarmack but I've no idea how much can be covered in a day?

If possible, I'll plan a day and somewhere to camp at the end of the day followed by a half day (or a day) for those who want to make a weekend of it.

Scratch that, I've just found a ready made one online (says not too challenging though), you I'll send gonzo a link to it in a mo, see what he thinks. 80 miles.

Bear in mind how many are going and how 'new' to laning they might be .. some lanes in the Peaks might only be a few hundred yards on but can take an hour to do safely .. Check the routes against an OS map and the contours .. ;)

Cheers paul, don't worry - already thought of that one. plenty of time yet anyway.

Route I found earlier looks to be mostly roads so I've carried on looking and found one from someone I know and trust - he's not the sort to be choosing lanes that a car could do, nor is he the sort to do illeagal lanes so looks to be a good un, bit shorter though. He's also posted the route him and another friend did from the scottish borders down to the peak district; 450 odd miles and over 200 miles of lanes would be pretty epic but I've not got that sort of money.

I'll be trying to keep it challenging but free from any damage to trucks, as said though, I'm after a challenge so I'd suggest nothing less capable than a standard disco on a/t's but will be able to be more specific when I've had a better look at maps etc. Having never driven any lanes out there, you guys are probably better qualified to comment about that sorta thing. I'd guess lifted trucks and steering guards at least would be a major advantage with it being rocky where we're going.

Numbers wise, I'm not all that sure what to say - glass suggest a max of 6 to a group but obviously there's nothing wrong with more than one group - the problem comes with the campsite I suppose - I doubt they'd be all that keen on 12 muddy trucks with knobbly tyres descending on them, let alone a possible 24 (or more) occupants getting pished in the evening. What have you guys done before, numbers wise?

I think you're right with the numbers. pm me the route if you want and I'll have a check with routes I've done previously and others I know about.

We did Stanage last year with a standard Disco on road tyres and no damage, well, except for something that he knew about anyway ... ;)

Not long, maybe half an hour .. or three if you stop for tiffin .. ;)

Ah, ok. Seen a couple of videos online and looked at
how long it is, I thought it'd be more of a challenge than
that, looks the sort of place you could pick up some expensive
damage.

O.k. Haven't got round to doing much to my truck yet, just
got brake pipes to do really then I think it's ready for it's mot.

Got a 60 mile Ish route in the central south area, will look at sorting
something for the second day, looking like I might not be able to
join you; the mrs has booked a holiday about the same time and
it's gonna come down to funds but I'll sort that out nearer the time
and hand the routes etc over as long as you guys promise to do it again
when I can afford to lol.

Cheers gonzo, you looked at that route yet (the second one)?

Has anybody got a bulb holder for a front indicator on a disco 1 (1998 if it matters) they'd sell me please? it's either that or bodge tape the way it's going, unless anyone can tell me where to get one?

Just made and fitted a fuel heating system as I'm a vegi burner, should've done some brake pipes really but it's not as much fun as making stuff!

I suppose it's time to start making a provisional list of who's going and who'd want to camp - The route I've found starts and finishes near a place I camped last year and I know of a couple more sites. I'll get hold of them soon to find out if there's any sort of group discount or number restrictions.

copy and paste as usual guys; Only provisional for now, I'll get you to confirm when we've worked dates out. Think we'll be limiting it to two groups so a maximum of 12 trucks, Mine'll be m.o.t'd etc by the end of the month so roughly mid-late june.

Your route looks good .. mostly further South than I go, And you've got, in my opinion, one of the best green lanes ever, Roych Clough, in there .. so it can't be bad ... ;)
