Prob a daft question but I cant seen to find the answer!- can passengers legally travel on the benches in the back of the landrover (defender)- and how about kids they would obviously unrestrained! Cheers

yes passengers can travel on bench seats. Children can also travel on bench seats but must NOT be restrained as there are no child restraints that meet the new EU regs. If you are carrying children in any vehicle they must have preference over adults where seatbelt use is concerned so if you have a 90HT with side facing seats and you have a child and a 2nd adult with you. The child must be secured in the front passenger seat in an approved child restraint that is designed for the size of the child. The 2nd adult must travel in the rear. If you have a 2nd child with you and no more front facing seats. Then that child can be carried in the rear but must not be restrained. That's the Legal viewpoint. However If I were in that situation I would use the lapbelt and to hell with the law.

am I right in believeing that my C reg 90 is exempt from rear seat belts because the seatbelt legislation for rear belts did not come into effect until 1986?? Jai

Yes they have belts but they're not covered by MOT regs because they're sideways facing.. Obviously the later forwards facing seats are required to have them by law and are subject to MOT regs.

Ok fair enough Cheers Redhand! Your on the ball Jai
