Ive been looking at suppliers, diagrams, and manuals, and still dont have it quite clear. And its raining at the moment, so i dont want to go crawl about in the street...
Im wanting to replace all the u joints on my 300 tdi disco.

So...

I want 2-off UJs per shaft "Propshaft UJ (HARDY SPICER)" (4 total)
The ones with the greaser are double the cost... Or, of course, i can get britpart for pocket change.

Anyhow,

Then "Prop Coupling Incl. Bolts-OEM" 1 per shaft or one at each end? (2-off or 4-off total)
Id have thought 1 at each end (4-off total) but someone mentioned otherwise to me?

Then i get confused about the gaiters -

Paddocks list "Propshaft Gaitor (dome type)" for the rear shaft, but somthing completely different for the front "Propshaft gaiter kit"?

Easy links -

Front -

Rear -

Misc -

Thank you

From the pictures all of the UJs are greaseable, as for the prop gaitors that's right front and rear are different, also unless your bolts aren't damaged reuse if any thing you just need to replace the locking nuts and tighten up to spec. but that's up 2U..:)

The disco is our only car on the road at the moment, so i dont mind buying the bolts, just in case the old ones get damaged taking them off.

So the rubber ring thing - 2 per prop, or one? Ill get a photo...

Then 4-off these -

(which, youre right - certainly in the photo looks like a greese point)

And then 1-off these -

(for the front)

and 1-off these -

(for the rear)

So, yeah, if those parts look like the right ones, its just if i need 2 per prop of the ring, or one. Id have thought two (4 total), but someone mentioned otherwise...

Please tell me you haven't got a lift kit.
My donut was a £12 special from Paddocks, had no problems at all until I fitted a 2" lift with double cranked arms.
Just over a week later I'm looking at this :(

My new plan is fit a 200tdi prop and the relevant flange adapter kit and kiss goodbye to the rubber ring of death !

I think the prop bolts at the transfer box end are only removable when the transfer box output flange nut is undone and flange removed. I wouldn't change them unless the felt washer is leaking. It's an M20 nylock which is expensive from the main stealers. I always change the prop nuts but never the prop bolts (unless I lose one like last week!). You need a 9/16 open ended spanner and a 9/16 socket. I use the special tool from paddocks, seems to help. I also used an electric impact wrench to get the nuts off (takes seconds). Helps to lift the passenger wheel slightly so you can move the prop round. I hate removing and refitting the front pop, always seems to need to be done in dark when it's raining!

Thank you.
So -

Front -
Propshaft nut and bolt x 8 (4 per flange, 1 flange at each end)
Propshaft UJ (HARDY SPICER) x 2
Propshaft gaiter kit x 1

Rear -
Propshaft nut and bolt x 4 (I flange only at the transfer box)
Propshaft UJ - Hardy Spicer GKN x 2
Propshaft Gaitor (dome type) x 1
Propshaft Rubber Coupling x1 (includes fixings) This replaces the existing Donut and replaces the existing 6 bolts, which are different to the other flange bolts above.

Will order it all tomorrow morning.

Put in the order at Paddocks... got a call back, saying they only had 3-off the ujs in stock (id ordered 4)

Chap then went on to say "its on a disco one, right", and then "you only need three anyway".

So, i went home, got the torch out, and, sure enough, he's right...

Ive no idea what the diagram above is all about then. Mine is like the insert in the top right, and also like the photo Zigster posted.
