Hello all.
I’m new here, so please be gentle with me!

My partner and I own a D90 and live in Oxfordshire
I would like to pick your brains please.
My partner tries to fix most problems himself (he used to fix cars back in the old days). Most recently, he changed the glow plugs and not for the first time, I heard him mutter that he could do the job better with some Parallel Pliers. I am thinking of getting him some for Christmas but am totally clueless on what to buy.
He has a huge toolbox with all manner of kit but he is obviously missing this particular plier.
Does anyone have a clue what I’m bleating on about or have any recommendations please?
TIA.

Ive got a set of parallel pliers, useful tool but things have moved on since the auld dayz
you can now buy glow plug socket sets with a swivel joint.

Welcome to Lz :)

Thanks for that. He may well have been using a swivel joint socket set (I wouldn’t know) but he has mentioned these pliers when he has been working on other stuff too. I did have a look at Maun but their range of PP’s is mind-boggling. I may have to go back to the drawing board and buy him socks and a book!
Thanks for the advice and the welcome.

here's a wee video explaining what they are/do ...

They are more for jewelry than working on landrovers but it's nice to know there are some with mechanical sympathy out there :)

Thanks. I did look at Maun but their range made me glaze over. I reckon I should stop trying to buy something without the required specs etc!

I wonder if he wanted the pliers to start the tiny nuts on their threads? as they are silly small and very fiddly, easy to drop as well

A wise decision. I wouldn't want anybody else to choose my tools.

KNIPEX Pliers Wrench. More like channel lock pliers but have parallel closing jaws. Available in various sizes.

That said I agree, ask him what he wants. That way he gets what is suitable for what he wants to use them for.

Christmas present tools for LR owners… My personal x3 favourites:
