Got a guy in my office who thinks his Pajero (cost 4 grand) is the dogs Bxxxxxxs compared to my V8 Disco (350 quid still in my garage being restored!!!). He gives me the usual crap about landrover build quality and Japanese being better. I don't have anymore bullets to fire at him, can anyone offer any suggestions ? I have already offered him a tug of war !

Simple. Ask him to find a Pajero, or Shogun for that matter, for sale on Ebay with over 150k on the clock, and you will give him a tenner for everyone he finds. Then repeat the same for a Disco and Rangie, but he gives you a tenner for every one you find.
Game over.

Incidently, ive just bought a Disco again as the Shogun i had gave up at 94k. Yet ive just bought a 300 tdi with 106k on the clock and i am completely happy to put my trust in it.
I made a MAJOR mistake buying a Shogun.

Hi chaps, my Son in law was daft enough to buy a Pajero secondhand last summer. What a pile of ****, totally guttless it was. The ride was crap, on the motorway it was like a washing machine on fast spin, the vibration was irritating. The dash and interior were so plastic.

I wouldn't have one through choice, thats for sure.

Regards WP.

Shogun is a pikey chav-scum mobile.

Disco has class.

Case closed?

Oh, and ask your pal how many used 2.8 diesels are available on the secondhand market. Not many? Oh dear, have they all lunched themselves? I think so...

OK, thanks for the feedback. He has at this moment three Pajeros all Imports that he has registered. There all SWB 2.8 TD, two auto one manual. He wants 3k a piece and they have all done around 50 thousand miles. Thing is i've bought one home coz my missus quite fancies one. Just been out for a drive and she likes it. Now i'm a Landy fella through and through but it is a cheap price ! There is two many electrical gizmos for my liking, adjustable suspension, different auto gearbox ratios, electric mirrors, compass etc.. Theres even a socket on the back seat for plugging yer hair dryer and straightners into. Got to think of a good excuse to put her off. What is the main downfall of owning a Pajero ?

Balaclava not required it's got tinted windows and he says it does about 25 to the gallon (Fact or fiction). Parts probably cost a lot more so i can use that one, but aren't jap made vehicles meant to be really reliable, crackin build quality, validated and tested to death.

Er, no.
Japan doesnt exactly have a lot of off road areas to be honest, and although the Shogun/Pajero looks an enterprising proposition, as a long term bet price a few things up. Start with a gearbox, see how easy you can find one against a Disco. Ask your wife why the police use Discos and Range Rovers, and always have. Surely if the reliability was a factor there would be lots of Jap metal with blues and twos.
No.
Fact is they are nice to drive, comfy, have all the gizmos, and look the dogs danglies. But so does a Ford Mondeo these days.
Ive just got shot of my Shogun, 1992 model LWB 2.5 on ebay for 850 quid cuz the engine had blown. It had decided to drop 2 valves for no apparent reason, cambelt was intact and so was cam. And i had guys from Ireland desperate to come and buy it because they couldnt get bits or parts for reasonable money, if they could find them.
Compare that to a Disco, off down the scrappy, buy bits, come home, big hammer, job done.
Ive gone back to a Discovery, they are (as are all landies) the best 4x4xfar. No-one argued or sued when they stated that.

Well his is a d****l for starters

Drove one Shogun once and it was horrible. And what's the story with the front suspension....?

If you want to look like a pikey or a poof I'm sure they are fantastic and, lets be honest, potentially more reliable.

My best mate has a V8 Disco and he wouldn't swap it for anything.
