What's the process for painting passivated steel, I've got some TF & ****part yellow passivated bits that I want to paint because basically they'll rust in no time with the road salting that goes on round here over winter.

Will a t-wash etch the passivate? I've got some kicking about. I had a quick google but couldn't find anything definitive.

Once it's prepped I've got some high zinc xylene based primer and top coat from arcrite to whack on.

Cheers.

I would guess acid etch would be better to chemically adhere to the surface, I doubt Twash will do anything useful.

Popped out at lunchtime, degreased with isopropyl alcohol, then t-washed. It's turned black so I assume it's working. Will wash it later once dried then stick the Xylene primer on and see how it fares.

2 coats of red oxide & 2 coats of arc-rite black tractor enamel - should fare a bit better than the crappy passivate coating - excuse the brush finish, my compressor won't run a spray gun.
