we took our vandalized p38 to get a quote for the ins. for both rear 1/4s and tail gate lid to be painted.
we were told the car has to be shipped to an lpg specialist to have the lpg tanks removed so the car can be put in the oven after painting.
is this true?
we were also told that as the car is s reg. it could be an economical write off.
its just got a few of offensive words scratched on the above panels
its in good nick with 116K.
does this sound right.
just looking for a few opinions
thanks.

the 2 nine yr olds that did this, also did 3 other cars in the street.
before you start thinking that we p####d some one off.
cheers

i thought you could insist on the repairs being done? could be wrong though.

You can. If he/she insists on a full re-spray then i reckon the insurance company will say its a write-off. If, however, he/she agrees to a re-paint of just the panels then they won't write it off but the vehicles paintwork will never be even, no matter how good a job they do...in fact, the better a paint job they do, the more obvious it will be.

so if its an economical write off, will they give me lowest book value.?
we paid 3995 for it 2 yrs ago.
will they offer to sell the car back to me?
will it now be a cat d write off?
i'm new to this and quite shocked that this may happen, and want to know what the next step would be, as it's a good car.as far as p38s go.

they may well offer you the car back for a fee, which should be negotiable.. not sure where it stands as a write off cat d etc but if you intend to keep it shouldnt be a problem as its already registered to you, may be wrong tho but dont think it will need a vic check.
they will offer you as little as possible, haggle with them find adverts, autotrader ebay etc to back up your claimfor more money, dont accept the first offer.

they will offer you what they think they can get away with:rolleyes:
you need plenty of examples of your car in adverts off autotrader and other magazines/sites so you can prove what pristine examples of your car are selling for (go for expensive overpriced cars where possible)
don't accept the first offer they make. it's usually a **** take.
i suppose it would be cat d write off. some insurance companies will let you buy the car back but the cat d bit will affect resale value.

we were told to use this paint shop by our ins, and they are sending the quote to the ins. we should get an answer in a couple of days.
i will keep you all informed.
thanks alot for the advice

I`ll willingly stand correction on this but thought it is up to the insured to get a quote from whomever he/she wants?

So, If the insurers want to write car off, maybe Dibbles could try and buy it, OR, get a cheaper quote, acceptable to the ins. co. and avoid a "write-off"? May not be a pristine job, but he`d get to keep a car he`s happy with and be able to keep Fully Comp if he wants.
