ok,

i know this has been covered many times on many forums but its still not helping me.

after stripping the front end on my disco, it would appear that surface rust and some deeper rust is apparent everywhere.

with visible parts i plan to clean and paint, however with the less visible parts what are people doing for an effective cheap fix.

was planning on POR15 but its expensive and sounds hard to work with due to self sealing tins etc.

ill use an example:

the front body mounts close to the healight boxes. I dont fancy taking them off as they look like the nut would just round off. they are rusty and space it tight to wire brush to a high standard.

would you
- whack in some rust converter and then paint,
- whack in rust converter then some dinitrol / waxoyl
- as above but without the rust converter first

i dont want the rust getting much worse but cant do a nut and bolt rebuild at this stage as i actually need the car so cant have it in bits.

then there are sooo many products:

rust converters:
kurust
rust remedy
vactan

wax:
dinitrol
waxoyl

paints:
tetrosyl
coach enamel
dulux metal paint

primers:
red oxide
zinc primer
rust beater
etch primer

my head is totally spinning

You could invest in a second hand sandblaster or something?

Will get you in the nooks and crannys, then it's just a case of primer and then paint / waxoyl whatever you choose.

Rust converter for bits you cant get with blaster
