Paint code for a 1997 Defender

Hi everyone!

I have a Defender 110 1997 300 Tdi that is "white". Checking the site by Stephen Hull I would interpret it as it has to be an LRC456 "Alpine white" since no other white was in use during 1997. Is this a correct assumption? I would be glad of any help to determine this. The Defender is originally German.

PS. I checked with Microcat, but this particular VIN did not have the color code entered... :confused:

(Looking in Hull's list, it would be cool to have "German Border Police White" :p odd color name...)

Unless for some reason it was specially painted, or resprayed at some time, then yes LRC.456

If you want to be sure, Halfords have colour cards you can hold against it (larger stores only and they sometimes deny having them when they do!), or order a £10 touch up brush paint and test a small area.

Re: Microcat - for the older ones it doesn't seem to hold the colour data, althoug it does show you all the colours that were in use for that year if you click on the drop down box

Hehe, well spotted :p It should probably have said "this thread was my...".

Anyway, not resprayed, fully factory original and yes a 1997 for sure. However, the paint aging part is where I am more unsure. It could well be that when I buy a LRC456 it might look nothing like the color currently on my car...! They could probably make a lot of money selling "pre-aged" colors for us with old cars... :) Or not...

Or see if you can get a touch up thingy of LRC456 ;)
 
You will find that many local back street paint suppliers can mix any colour you want including all land rover colours. I took mine round he took a look and told be... bt grey. Mixed me an areosol and a touch up bottle in a few minutes. Your local guy is more likely to be able to help... and you wont pay £10 for a touch up bottle.
Just remember that match may be good but never perfect as 15yr old paint can change a little. Maybe T cut your paint first?
